GLOBE STRENGTHENS ACADEMIC-INDUSTRY LINKAGES, EMPOWERS NEXT-GEN DIGITAL LEADERS IN NORTHERN MINDANAO

20 August 2025

Globe Telecom is deepening its commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry through strengthened partnerships with leading universities in Northern Mindanao.

Through collaborative initiatives with the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), Globe is advancing its Internship Program and Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) to equip students with hands-on experience, industry-relevant skills, and digital literacy essential for the future workforce.

These efforts highlight Globe’s vision of creating strong industry-academe linkages that empower students and strengthen the talent pipeline in the region.

Strengthening Linkages for Workforce Readiness

The collaborative engagements highlight Globe’s strong commitment to deepening industry-academe linkages and creating programs that provide students with hands-on experience, relevant digital skills, and workplace readiness. By driving these initiatives, Globe continues to support the development of a highly skilled, future-ready workforce equipped to succeed in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven economy.

Forging Industry-Academe Synergy at USTP

At USTP, Globe is enhancing both connectivity and capability. Through the installation of Indoor Building Solutions (IBS), the university is now equipped with robust, high-speed network access that is vital for research and digital learning.

Beyond infrastructure, Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) is helping shape responsible and informed digital citizens. USTP’s inclusion in Globe’s Win the Youth Program also integrates technology-driven learning into its academic environment. Together, these initiatives provide a strong foundation for industry-aligned education and professional development opportunities for students.

Practical Training Through MSU-IIT Partnership

Globe has also strengthened its partnership with MSU-IIT through a newly signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with its School of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE). This collaboration reinforces Globe’s internship program and allows students to gain first-hand experience in telecom operations and network technologies.

In 2024, Globe delivered the Digital Thumbprint Program training for MSU-IIT students to complement their classroom learning with essential digital skills. More than 20 students have since benefitted from direct industry experience through the internship program, bridging academic learning with the real-world demands of the tech sector.

“These partnerships are a testament to Globe’s dedication to fostering a future-ready workforce and contributing to the nation’s digital transformation,” said Aldwin Mahusay, Assistant Director – HR Business Partner at Globe Telecom. “By bridging the gap between academic learning and industry demands, we are empowering students with the skills and experiences necessary to thrive in the evolving technological landscape.”

Collective Commitment to Academic-Industry Linkages

These achievements are the result of the collaborative efforts of Globe’s Territory 8 Team, which includes Aldwin Mahusay (HR), James Lopez (CLSG), Jim Lubguban (B2B Iligan City), and Jaypee Gulay (CorpComm), working closely with USTP and MSU-IIT leadership and faculty. Together, they are creating a stronger ecosystem where academia and industry intersect to develop dynamic future-ready leaders in Northern Mindanao.
