Globe Telecom, Inc. and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) formally turned over their Memorandum of Agreement on January 30, 2026 at the MMDA office in Pasig City, marking a renewed commitment to disaster preparedness and response in Metro Manila. The agreement reinforces their shared commitment to disaster preparedness and response in Metro Manila.

PHIVOLCS studies on “The Big One” indicate a magnitude 7.2 earthquake, caused by a 400-600 year cycle movement of the West Valley Fault, which last moved in 1658, is increasingly likely to occur near 2058, though it could happen sooner. The quake could affect approximately 40% of Metro Manila.
The collaboration supports Oplan Metro Yakal Plus, MMDA’s disaster response plan for this worst‑case earthquake scenario.

Globe will activate its Disaster Recovery Plan, fortifying sites, restoring network services, and deploying Network in a Box (NIB) and Cell on Wheels (COW) facilities to ensure connectivity in critical areas. MMDA will facilitate Globe’s rapid deployment by granting access to priority sites, issuing credentials to personnel, and designating secure equipment locations with power and fuel support.
