MORE THAN 100 IP STUDENTS IN ZAMBOANGA CITYGET COVID19 JABS
MORE than 100 students from an indigenous people’s community in Zamboanga City received their second dose of vaccine against Covid19, a health official said.
Maria Christine Lim, City Health Office education and promotion officer, said 141 students aged 5 to 11 belonging to the Samal and Badjao Tribes have been immunized.
“The local government has ensured that IP communities are included in the vaccination rollout. Another set of 55 IP students, aged 12 to 17, also received their first primary dose on Tuesday,” Lim said.
“IP communities in other barangays are likewise given the opportunity by health workers to be vaccinated against Covid19 either through fixed sites or house-to-house vaccination drives,” she added.
The country’s vaccine expert panel earlier said that it is waiting for vaccine manufacturers to seek approval for their Covid19 vaccine to be used as booster shots for children.
It also recommended the administration of a booster shot for minors aged 12 to 17.
Data from the Department of Health showed that about 9.1 million minors have been fully vaccinated against Covid 19 while some 1.5 million children aged 5 to 11 old have also been immunized.
