ILOILO CITY GOV’T MANDATES AUTOMATIC SUSPENSION OF F2F CLASSES FOR 42°C HEAT INDEX
THE ILOILO City government has issued an order mandating the automatic suspension of face-to-face classes when the heat index reaches 42°C, requiring schools to shift to alternative delivery modes.
Executive Order 024, signed by Mayor Jerry Treñas, outlines guidelines and protocols for schools in light of the anticipated high heat index.
“Last year, the threshold for suspension of face-to-face classes and a shift to alternative modes of delivery was set at 42°C, corresponding to the danger zone on the heat index chart,” Treñas said in the order.
According to the order, school heads have several options, including adjusting class schedules to start earlier and end before noon or shifting to alternative delivery modes in the afternoon.
Schools may also choose to fully transition to alternative delivery modes, depending on their specific conditions.
University administrators are encouraged to implement alternative learning methods to ensure the safety of students.
“School administrators and university presidents at the tertiary level are highly encouraged to adopt alternative delivery modes of instruction,” the order added.
