MAYOR Samsam Gullas of Talisay City in Cebu ordered the suspension of physical classes in the city on Friday in anticipation of Super Typhoon Mawar.

Gullas said he talked to Department of Education Superintendent Arden Monisit regarding the suspension.

The local government and DepEd distributed modules to children on Thursday to ensure learning continuity.

The mayor, however, clarified that the suspension is only applicable to public schools and said that suspension of classes in private schools is up to the discretion of school administrators.

Typhoon Mawar is expected to enter the country late Friday and will be named “Betty.”
