/ 26 February 2023

THE DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute conducted a science writing webinar for Cebu college students taking up Biology course.

Around 65 students from Cebu Association of Biology Students Inc. attended and participated in various workshop activities of the two-day webinar.

The member schools are Cebu Doctor’s University, Cebu Institute of Technology-University, Cebu Normal University, MHAM College Inc., Southwestern University PHINMA, University of the Philippines-Cebu, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of the Visayas, and Velez College.
DOST-STII Director Richard Burgos said Biology is useful and has practical applications in daily life.

“This e-learning session comes at the perfect time to equip you with more knowledge and skills in crafting content that would further promote the benefits of biology to every Filipino,” he said in his message.

DOST-STII and managing editor of S&T Post Jasmin Joyce Sevilla discussed in her lectures why they should communicate science to the public.

The S&T Post is a quarterly popular science magazine published by DOST-STII.

Sevilla discussed that telling stories about science-related subjects could make it easier for everyone to comprehend the importance of the work and dedication of local scientists, researchers, and engineers in delivering prompt and appropriate solutions to some of the current challenges.

Sevilla also shared some tips with the student-participants on how they can find a better story angle by identifying the target readers of their stories.
