CAGAYAN STUDENTS, PARENTS RIDE CARABAOS TO GRADUATION
TO ENSURE that social distancing will be observed, the Malinta Elementary School in Lasam, Cagayan used “karison” to take students and their parents to the stage during the school’s graduation.
Andee Mayo, school head of Malinta Elementary School, posted photos online of students and parents riding “karisons” driven by carabaos while receiving diplomas during the 58th Commencement Exercises of the school.
According to Mayo, instead of marching to the stage, seven karisons were sent to maintain social distancing throughout the graduation ceremony. Mayo said that they ensured that health and safety protocols were observed.
Mayo explained that they used “karison” as it signified the main livelihood of the parents in the community, which is farming.
“Ang karison ay sumisimbolo sa katatagan, kapakumbabaan, at pagiging resourceful ng mga magulang namin na sa kabila ng nararanasang pandemya ay patuloy ang pag-ikot ng buhay katulad nito sa gulong ng karison,” Mayo said.
