OVER 385,000 students were affected due to the recent eruption of Mt. Kanlaon as 684 schools were forced to close, according to Save the Children Philippines organization.

“This eruption has halted education in at least 684 schools and hundreds of thousands of children have been affected by the Mount Kanlaon eruption,” Humanitarian Manager of Save the Children Philippines Faisah Ali said.

“Experts have warned that volcanic activity may continue. We urge everyone to follow safety guidance issued by the authorities and Save the Children Philippines stands ready to assist those affected,” Ali added.

The group said it has notified its Emergency Response Team and local partners who are on standby to deploy to the affected area.

Mt. Kanlaon volcano on Negros Island is on Alert Level 2 following the eruption.
