THE NATIONAL Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Monday said that three schools in Juban town, Sorsogon suspended classes because of the ashfall from Bulusan Volcano.

These schools are Puting Sapa Elementary School, Sangkayon Elementary School and Añog Elementary School.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Sunday raised the alert status of Bulusan Volcano from 0 (normal) to 1 (low-level unrest).

Phivolcs Director and Science Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the phreatic eruption occurred at 10:37 a.m. and it lasted for 17 minutes.

Solidum Jr. warned households near rivers of possible lahar in case of heavy rains.

In the past 24 hours, the agency recorded 29 volcanic earthquakes.
