SENATOR BACKS PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

/ 4 December 2025

SENATOR Bam Aquino expressed strong support for a proposed program aimed at addressing the needs of children with disabilities, commending Senator Raffy Tulfo for bringing national attention to the issue.

Aquino cited findings from the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2), which revealed that one in every five students has special concerns requiring proper interventions.

He noted that limited funding for specialized facilities remains a major challenge, leaving many families without access to essential services.

During the Senate plenary session, Aquino shared that parents regularly approach him to relay their struggles.

“Many parents have told me that they do not know where to go due to the lack of government facilities for children with special needs,” he said.

The senator vowed to prioritize the matter once the Committee on Basic Education convenes.

“This should be raised, and we will work with the good senator as soon as we convene our committee when it comes to children with special needs and students with special needs, so we can help each other find a solution to this problem and a solution for their families,” Aquino added.

The initiative seeks to strengthen government support systems, expand access to specialized programs, and ensure that children with special needs receive the attention and services they deserve.
