YOUTH PARTYLIST FILES BILL ASKING FOR MORE EDUCATION BUDGET
KABATAAN partylist on Tuesday filed a resolution that aims to provide learners pro-student mode of learning amid the pandemic.
House Resolution 1276 also seeks a bigger budget for public schools, state colleges and universities.
“Legislators, students, teachers and members of different sectors firmly believe that education is a right and that education is an instrument for empowerment and national development as it serves a public and social purpose,” the group said.
“Thus, the education sector believes that higher state funding is needed for our public schools, universities, and colleges to provide ample support for students, faculty, and non-teaching personnel and to develop the capacity of public education institutions for flexible learning modalities,” it added.
The group compiled a list of demands from the education sector, including giving priority to teachers’ welfare by providing services for their physical, emotional and mental health, provision of resources to ensure students’ access to education by expanding scholarships, providing subsidies for gadgets and funding learning modules; and economic assistance to families.
“With all these measures, the education sector is collectively resolved to protect the right to education during these difficult times and beyond,” Kabataan said.
The group urged members of the House of Representatives to increase the subsidy for public school and state universities and colleges and use all means to help displaced students, faculty, and personnel affected by the pandemic.
