YOUTH GROUPS CONDEMN SC RULING ON ANTI-TERROR LAW

/ 10 December 2021

YOUTH groups voiced alarm and concern over the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the legality of the Anti-Terror law.

Although the tribunal declared parts of the law unconstitutional, several questioned provisions were not stricken out, prompting the groups to issue calls for “safety.”

The College Editors Guild of the Philippines said that some provisions in the law are “perilous.”

“We fear that its perilous measures and vague pronouncements would be used against the opposition this election to strengthen the hold of the Duterte-Marcos-Arroyo-Estrada alliance on the national and local posts,” the CEGP said in a statement.

Kabataan Party-list warned that Filipinos face danger for carrying dissent.

“Tayo ang balon ng mga target ng red- and terror-tagging, at tayong lahat ay biktima ng state terror,” it said.

The Student Christian Movement of the Philipines asserted that justice will be elusive unless the anti-terror law is completely junked.
