THE KABATAAN Party-list on Thursday slammed the insertion of training fees in the recent version of the proposed Mandatory Reserved Officers Training Corps in the Senate.

The group cited section 19 of the bill stating that training fees will be charged at 50 percent of the standard tuition per unit rate of the university, for those not covered by the Free Tuition Law.

“Hindi na nga nakakatugon sa krisis sa edukasyon ang Mandatory ROTC, dadagdag pa sa problema,” the group said.

It added that the mandatory fees will be an additional burden to students given impending tuition and other fee increase across private universities.

“Doble gastos, doble pagod at doble abuso ang dulot ng Mandatory ROTC. Di dapat sapilitang ipasok at singilin pa ang mga estudyante sa isang programa na napatunayan sa kasaysayan pumatay na sa kapwa estudyante,” they added.

“Sa halip na suportahan ito ng CHED dapat bigyang diin na lang nito ang pagpapahusay ng pagpapatupad ng Free Tuition Law para umaabot ito sa mas marami. Tanggihan din dapat ng CHED ang nakaambang tuition and other fee increase applications ng iba-ibang pribadong paaralan. Ang mandato ng ahensya dapat at ng administrasyong Marcos Jr. sa kabataang estudyante ay ang pagprotekta sa karapatan sa edukasyon,” the group said.
