VP ROBREDO FUNDS MODULE PRINTING IN BICOL

/ 9 October 2020

THE OFFICE of the Vice President has set aside money for the printing of learning modules in Bicol region so that teachers need not spend their own money.

Vice President Maria Leonor ‘Leni’  Robredo on Thursday said that teachers should not shoulder the expenses for the printing of learning modules for their students.

Robredo added that it is unfair for teachers to be burdened by producing modules as they are already risking their lives in performing their duties amid the Covid19 pandemic.

“Teachers are risking their life and limb, exposing themselves to the virus. They even use money out of their pocket for bond papers and printers for printing the modules. Kasama ito sa buhay maestra, but this is so unfair,” she said.

“Suwerte  iyong iba kasi they are under proactive LGUs, but not everyone is similarly situated,” she added.

To address this, the OVP allotted funding for the Modular Learning Training Program in Bicol which seeks to lessen the expenses of teachers.

Robredo noted that in the Bicol Region, 90 percent of learners opted for modular learning methods while only 10 percent are on online platforms.

The funding, Robredo said, will be given to the regional office of the Department of Education in Bicol.

“Covid19 has put our life on hold, but this does not mean that education should stop. Our office has earmarked funding for the Modular Distance Learning Training program. It will be fit for teachers of all grade levels, and educators need not worry about overhead expenses,” Robredo said.

Previously, the OVP established learning hubs to help disadvantaged students in distance learning.

These hubs are found in Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City; San Antonio and Libacao towns in Negros Oriental; Caloocan City; Taytay, Rizal; Balete, Aklan; and San Jose, Camarines Sur; among others.
