UPDATED EDUCATION AND TRAINING LAWS FOR KEY PROFESSIONS SOUGHT

/ 7 September 2025

SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go has urged lawmakers to modernize regulations governing key professions, stressing the need to align education and training with technological and societal changes.

During the Senate Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization, and Professional Regulation hearing, Go said laws shaping professional standards must keep pace with the demands of the times.

“Marami na pong nagbago sa mundo ngayon, at nararapat lang po na maging akma sa panahon ang mga batas para sa ating mga professionals,” Go said.

He emphasized that education and specialized training are central to professions such as healthcare, engineering, and law, noting that professionals must continuously adapt to provide quality services to Filipinos.

To strengthen professional education, Go has filed several measures in the Senate. Among them are:

Senate Bill No. 406 (Advanced Nursing Education Act) – expanding opportunities for Filipino nurses to pursue graduate-level education and specialization.

Senate Bill No. 675 (New Philippine Midwifery Act) – updating midwifery education to reflect modern practices.

Senate Bill No. 172 (New Medical Technology Law) – revising outdated provisions of the 1969 law, proposing higher entry-level salaries for medical technologists and creating a Professional Regulatory Board.

Senate Bill No. 1282 (Electrical Engineering Act) – modernizing the 1995 law to align competencies with global technological standards.

“Layunin po nito na mapalakas ang inyong propesyon at matiyak na patuloy tayong makakasabay sa pandaigdigang pamantayan lalo na sa teknolohiya at makabagong panahon,” Go explained.

He added that education-driven reforms for professionals will not only raise industry standards but also generate more opportunities for the Filipino workforce.

“Patuloy po nating pagtutulungan ang pagbuo ng mga polisiya at programa na magpapatatag sa ating mga industriya at magbibigay ng mas maraming oportunidad sa ating workforce,” he said.
