UNICEF TO GOVERNMENTS: INVEST IN MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
THE UNITED Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund called on governments to act on suicide cases among the youth.
UNICEF emphasized the need to increase investments in mental health services especially during the pandemic.
It noted that almost 46,000 people aged 10-19 commit suicide each year.
In the Philippines, 2,630 Filipinos have taken their own life from 2015-2020.
Last year, there were reports of some students committing suicide because of the difficulties of distance learning.
Unicef urged the youth to talk about their well-being with people they trust.
The group issued the call in line with the celebration of World Mental Health Day on Sunday.
