TEACHERS SHOULD BE CONSULTED ON RETURN TO OLD SCHOOL CALENDAR, SAYS LAWMAKER
REP. Roman Romulo on Monday said that public school teachers must be consulted on the proposal to return to the old school calendar.
Romulo, in a radio interview, said that there is a possibility that teachers and students will sacrifice their vacation for one school year to go back to the June school opening.
“Kailangan makausap ang mga guro kasi kung magbalik tayo sa dating academic calendar ‘yung adjustment po nyan mawawalan po sila ng summer break kasi po 220 days eh,” the chairman of the Committee on Basic Education at the House of Representatives said.
“So kung mag-a-adjust tayo maaaring mawala ‘yung summer break nila, so kailangan po makonsulta sila para malaman natin kung ano rin naman ‘yung saloobin nila,” he added.
The lawmaker also stressed the need to establish school buildings and classroom that will fit the country’s weather.
The soaring heat last summer prompted different groups to propose returning to the old school calendar to protect the health of students.
