TEACHERS’ GROUP WANTS DIALOGUE WITH DEPED CHIEF

THE Teachers’ Dignity Coalition wanted to have a dialogue with the Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara to address the concerns of teachers over the policies on working hours and the MATATAG curriculum.
According to TDC, the policies, implemented under DepEd Orders No. 5 and No. 10, have been the subject of “widespread dissatisfaction among public school teachers since the school year began last month.”
“We strongly believe that both orders should be immediately suspended, and the class programs should revert to previous schedules until the necessary policy changes are made,” TDC national chairperson Benjo Basas said.
However, Basas took note of Angara’s statements made on August 7 during a Senate event, in which the Secretary said that the DepEd eyes changing the policies regarding working hours and the MATATAG curriculum.
“These policies have unfortunately led to increased workloads and dissatisfaction among our teachers, as evidenced by the current class programs and the general sentiments of our colleagues,” Basas remarked.
