TEACHERS’ GROUP CONDEMNS SC RULING ON VP SARA’S IMPEACHMENT
THE ALLIANCE of Concerned Teachers has condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
“This ruling, cloaked in legal technicalities, serves no purpose other than to protect the powerful from public accountability,” the group said in a statement.
On Friday, the Supreme Court declared the impeachment complaint against Duterte unconstitutional.
The Court ruled that the fourth impeachment case, filed in February, was invalid as three previous complaints had already been lodged within the one-year prohibition period.
“This decision is symptomatic of a corrupt political system closing ranks to protect one of its own. And what does this Supreme Court ruling ultimately achieve? No evidence was examined. No hearing was held. No trial was allowed to unfold. And yet the people are told that the matter is settled,” the group added.
ACT also urged educators, students, and workers not to “be lulled by procedure.”
“Do not be disarmed by the opportunist legal acrobatics of the ruling class. Intensify the struggle. Protest. Organize. Mobilize,” the group said.
