THE TEACHERS’ Dignity Coalition called for the resignation of the officials of the Department of Education and the Department of Budget and Management-Procurement Service named in the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee report on the purchase of overpriced laptops for teachers.

“While no formal charges have yet been filed against the said officials, their temporary vacating their respective positions would demonstrate delicadeza and may restore some of the lost confidence in our justice system,” Benjo Basas, the group’s national chairperson, said.

“The teachers understand that the findings of the BRC are not conclusive and the recommendation to file a case in the competent court is the most effective way to initiate a deeper investigation and find out who is at fault. This means that the personalities involved will be given the opportunity to defend themselves,” Basas added.

The group said that concerned officials should be held accountable for the mess.

“We in TDC hope that if someone is found guilty, justice would be served — for the teachers, the students and the people who contributed their hard-earned money to government taxes to realize the purchase of these laptops,” Basas said.

“Somebody must be held accountable; the lost money must be returned to government coffers and the proven culprits must be jailed,” he added.
