TEACHERS’ DAY INCENTIVE NOT DUTERTE’S IDEA — ACT
ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro on Wednesday said that President Rodrigo Duterte cannot take credit for the P1,000 World Teachers’ Day Incentive.
She said that the proposal to give the incentive to teachers did not come from the Executive branch.
“If not for the strong and loud clamor of our teachers and our push in the budget deliberations last year, there would be no World Teachers’ Day incentive,” Castro said.
“The P1,000 World Teachers’ Day incentive is no thanks to President Duterte. He cannot use this incentive to save face from the growing disgust of teachers for continuing to neglect their demand for a substantial salary increase,” she added.
She said that the incentive is only a consolation for teachers.
“Hanggang ngayon, kulang na kulang pa rin ang supplies allowance na nakukuha ng ating mga guro. The P5,000 lumped expenses for internet, school supplies, other communications and medical check-up is still a far cry from the demand of our teachers and what we proposed of P5,000 teaching supplies allowance, P10,000 internet allowance for the whole school year and P500 medical check-up for every teacher,” Castro stressed.
