SUPREME COURT HOLDS MOCK DIGITAL BAR EXAMS

/ 2 February 2021

THE SUPREME Court on Sunday conducted a mock Bar examination in five locations to identify problems that might occur in the computer system.

The high court is considering giving digital exams which is seen as a boon to examinees with poor handwriting.

“This is part of the Court’s reforms to make the bar examinations more equitable and inclusive while at the same time maintaining the standards of the legal profession,” the tribunal said in a statement.

“The Pilot/Mock Bar was conducted in order to validate the various protocols and digital standards that will be used,” it added.

Only 80 out of the expected 120 law students participated in the mock exams. The Chief Justice and other members of the court observed the event.

The SC will release the final guidelines on the modality of the Bar examinations this month.

Associate Justice and Bar chairman Marvic Leonen earlier said that the mock exams aimed to test the readiness of the system.

During the mock test, a so-called “Red Team” tried to hack the system while the examination was ongoing. This was to test the system’s preparedness against cyberattacks.

For the actual exams, the court plans to install security cameras in test venues and have a centralized command center.
