NANINDIGAN ang Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan sa kanilang pagtutol sa pagpapatupad ng mandatory reserve officers training course.

Ito ay matapos lumabas sa survey ng Social Weather Stations na 35 percent ang sumusuporta sa inclusion ng ROTC bilang mandatory course para sa Grade 11 at 12 students, 42 percent ang nais maging optional ang programa, habang 22 percent ang nagpahayag ng pagtutol dito.

“While the statistics from the recent SWS report express discomfort with the mandate, we believe that the numbers would overtake those who say that it would be compulsory had the data included students. The central data that this and the other recent surveys still miss, however, are the primary stakeholders of mandatory ROTC,” ayon kay Sophia Reyes, SPARK Spokesperson for Basic Education.

Samantala, sa survey ng Pulse Asia na kinomisyon ng tanggapan ni Senador Win Gatchalian at inilabas nitong Abril ay lumitaw na 78 percent ng mga Pilipino ang sumusuporta sa pagpapatupad ng mandatory ROTC sa mga kolehiyo.

Si Gatchalian ay isa sa mga may akda at sponsor ng Senate Bill no. 2034 o ang proposed Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Act.

“The reinstatement of mandatory ROTC solves none of the current issues that plague our country, especially issues that Filipino students face under our education system,” ani John Lazaro, SPARK National Coordinator.
