A 2010 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee admitted that the country’s education sector is in a crisis and needs to be fixed.

Dr. Christopher Bernido, 2010 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for education, said that the Department of Education should solve the “root of the problem in the Philippine education.”

“The Philippines is in a crisis. We cannot really afford to look at the leaves, branches and trunk — we have to go direct to the root to solve the Philippine educational crisis,” Bernido said.

He raised some concerns about the spiral progression curriculum of the K to 12 program.

“We can keep on tweaking a defective system, we can keep polishing a defective system but it will remain a defective system,” he said.
