ZAMBOANGA City First District Rep. Khymer Adan Olaso has filed a resolution directing the Committee on Basic Education and Culture to include the dominant mother tongue language as a regular subject in the Senior High School Curriculum.
In his House Resolution Number 1933, Olaso said including the dominant mother language as a regular subject in the Senior High School curriculum will not only strengthen regional languages but also equip students with the linguistic skills necessary for better communication, cultural exchange, and academic success.
The solon said the dominant mother language of a region is not yet fully integrated as a core subject in the Senior High School Curriculum, limiting the continued development and preservation of regional language among older students.
He added that there is a need to promote linguistic diversity and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the dominant mother tongue language among Senior High School students.
This, the lawmaker said, will also contribute to the preservation of cultural identity, heritage, and local history.
