SOLON SEES NEED TO ADDRESS INCREASING NUMBER OF TEENAGE PREGNANCIES

/ 24 February 2025

LAS PIÑAS City Rep. Camille Villar has expressed concern over the rising number of teenage pregnancies in the country, especially among underprivileged communities.

To address the issue, Villar emphasized the need to raise awareness about the consequences of early pregnancy. She also called for efforts to support the mental well-being of young mothers through counseling and specialized training programs.

“This is a growing concern, as there has been a 30-percent increase in teen pregnancies, particularly among those aged 14 to 16,” Villar said. “We need to raise awareness about this issue and help teenagers understand the long-term effects of early pregnancies.”

Villar also stressed the importance of educating teenage mothers on how to navigate the challenges of raising a child and managing their families.

She urged society to adopt a broader perspective and remove the stigma surrounding teenage motherhood. “We need to start by raising awareness and eliminating the stigma that often prevents open discussions about this issue,” she said.

“For those affected by early pregnancies, we need to provide ample support—financial assistance and guidance on managing their situations and families,” Villar added.
