SOLON SEEKS TO DEVELOP GENERATIVE AI REGULATIONS FOR PH’s EDUCATION SYSTEM
MISAMIS Oriental Rep. Bambi Emano is pushing for a measure seeking to develop generative artificial intelligence or GenAI regulations to maximize its positive impact on the Philippine education system.
Emano’s House Bill 10751, or the proposed Philippine Generative Artificial Intelligence in Education Act, aims to mandate the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Science and Technology, and Department of Information and Communications Technology to develop the regulations.
The solon said it is time for the Philippines to recognize the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in revolutionizing various sectors, including education.
Al technologies, particularly Generative Al or GenAl, can personalize learning experiences, optimize teaching methodologies, and enhance educational outcomes for learners of all ages.
However, the responsible integration and regulation of Al in education are crucial to maximize its positive impact and mitigate potential risks.
The measure aims to address the need for a clear regulatory framework governing the use of Al ni Philippine education.
Under the proposed legislation, the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Science and Technology, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology are mandated to collaborate in developing regulations specifically tailored for the integration of generative Al technologies in educational practices at all levels.
