SOLON SEEKS REVIEW OF CAREER PATH OF NON-TEACHING ACADEMIC PERSONNEL
PASIG City Rep. Roman Romulo is urging the Department of Education to review and draft policies concerning the career path of non-teaching academic personnel in the school’s division offices.
In House Resolution 2052, Romulo explained that on June 23, 2022, then-President Rodrigo Duterte promulgated Executive Order 174, which established an expanded career progression system for public school teachers, defining career lines and creating new position titles such as Teacher IV, V, VI, VII, and Master Teacher V.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives approved House Bill 10270 on Third Reading, which institutionalizes the career progression of public school teachers as of August 8, 2024.
Romulo noted that, with the issuance of Executive Order 174 and its implementing rules and regulations, as well as the proposed laws for institutionalizing career progression for public school teachers, the Philippines Schools District Supervisors Association (PSDSA) raised concerns about potential salary distortion between supervisory personnel and their subordinates.
The PSDSA has requested assurance that such disparities will be addressed and prevented.
Thus, the solon emphasized the need to review the staffing pattern and ensure that the implementation of career progression for public school teachers does not lead to a demotion in rank or a reduction in salary, benefits, and other privileges for incumbent employees.
