SOLON PRODS GOV’T TO PROVIDE BRIDGING PROGRAM FOR FRESH GRADUATES
RIZAL 4th District Rep. Fidel Nograles is urging the government to provide a bridging program for fresh graduates that would help them acquire the skills they missed during online classes.
Nograles said the program is one of the solutions the government can do to address the perceived lack of practical job skills among fresh graduates of the so-called pandemic generation following a report by the Commission on Human Rights.
“The results of the report, while expected, is troubling, and we in government should actively work to address the gaps that have been identified,” said Nograles.
“It might be a good idea for the government to provide an avenue where new graduates can fill their skills gaps, including in areas such as communication, teamwork, and critical thinking,” the solon added.
The lawmaker further said the program could help place new graduates on equal footing with previously laid-off employees, which the Employers Confederation of the Philippines said are currently being prioritized by companies due to their experience.
At the same time, the solon stressed the need for government to establish linkages with industries to help identify the skills that new graduates need to land available jobs and ensure job fit.
“We need a national conversation on the job situation. Kailangan nating malaman kung ano ang mga pagkukulang, at ano ang maaaring gawin para mapunan ang mga ito,” he said.
