SOLON FILES ANOTHER MEASURE INTEGRATING COMPUTER SCIENCE IN K TO 12 CURRICULUM

/ 26 December 2023

CAGAYAN de Oro Second District Representative Rufus Rodriguez filed another measure integrating Computer Science in the curriculum of the enhanced Basic Education Program and appropriating funds.

In his House Bill 9734 or the proposed Computer Science in Schools Act, Rodriguez said it cannot be denied that we are now in a digital era where almost everything can be done through computers online.

“As such, it is very important that our citizens are equipped to face the challenges that this brings,” Rodriguez said in his explanatory note.

The solon explained that this is why computer science plays a big role and why it should be taught as early as possible.

He further said that teaching computer science will give kids thinking skills that will help them become proactive learners and citizens.

Also, the lawmaker added, by introducing computer science fundamentals to students, we are effectively equipping them with the proper tools needed to make them capable digital-age citizens and, at the same time, preparing them for global competitiveness.
