TUTOL si Senate President Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III sa isinusulong na comprehensive sexuality education sa ilalim ng Senate Bill 1334 o ang proposed Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy Act of 2020.

Sinabi ni Sotto na umalma sa probisyon ang Catholic schools dahil ‘offensive’ ang pamamaraan ng pagtuturo ng sexuality sa panukala.

“Sa sinasabing sexuality education mayroon  na sa Reproductive Health law. It’s a matter of implementation, redundant lang. Itong gusto nilang gawing bago, offensive pa sa Catholic schools,  lalo na ang magulang naisasantabi,” pahayag ni Sotto.

“Sino ang magtuturo sa eskuwelahan, nakita mo naman nasisingitan tayo ng teachers na nagsasamantala sa mga estudyante. Iba  ang magulang, kailangan magulang pa rin,” dagdag pa ng sendor.

Tinukoy ni Sotto ang pagtutol ng Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines na binubuo ng 1,525 Catholic schools at universities.

Sinabi ni Sotto na hindi nakonsulta ang grupo hinggil sa Senate Bill 1334, partikular ang probisyon para sa ‘age and development-appropriate comprehensive sexual education’ sa mga paaralan at komunidad.

Partikular na tinutulan ng grupo sa panukala ang probisyon na gagamiting kondisyon para sa akreditasyon ng mga paaralan ang comprehensive sexual education.

“According to them, their Catholic identity as articulated in their vision and mission is the very nexus of the instruction and formation of their students,” diin ni Sotto.

Iginiit din ng grupo, ayon pa kay Sotto, na may conflict sa academic freedom ang probisyon dahil isinusulong ang standardized instruction sa human sexuality.

“I’m surprised that a big chunk of the bill concerns sexuality education and we should have referred this measure to the Committee on Basic Education and more so, the Committee on Higher Education,” sinabi pa ni Sotto.

Pinayuhan ng Senate President ang sponsor ng panukala na si Senador Risa Hontiveros na pag-aralang muli ang mga probisyon bago ipagpatuloy ang debate hinggil dito.
