SENATOR URGES NEW LAWYERS TO SERVE WITH SOCIAL JUSTICE

/ 8 January 2026

SENATOR Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Wednesday congratulated the successful examinees of the 2025 Bar Examinations, urging them to view the legal profession not as a badge of prestige but as a duty to serve the country, especially in challenging times.

In a statement, Pangilinan welcomed nearly 5,000 new lawyers to what he described as the real work of lawyering, stressing that the title “Atty.” carries responsibilities beyond personal achievement.

“At a time when it feels like there is no rule of law and the country is being drowned in corruption, being a lawyer is not just a flex. It is a duty,” the senator said.

Pangilinan underscored the vital role of lawyers across various sectors, saying the nation needs them in government, the courts, labor unions, and local communities.

He encouraged the new members of the Bar to choose public service even when it is difficult and lacks glamour.

“Practice with integrity, consistency, and a bias for truth and social justice,” he said, adding that lawyers must always ask critical questions: who benefits, who is left out, and who pays the price. “Then act,” he urged.

The senator also reminded the passers that the Bar examination is not an endpoint, but a beginning.

“The Bar is not a finish line. It is a gate to what you can do. The exciting part is only beginning,” Pangilinan said.

Addressing those who did not pass the exam this year, Pangilinan offered words of encouragement, saying failure does not define a person’s intelligence, determination, or calling.

“Failing the Bar is not a final judgment. It is only one snapshot, not the whole story,” he said.

He advised examinees to rest, regroup, and try again when ready, noting that both the legal profession and the country will continue to need their service.
