SENATOR TO PROPOSE P6-M FUNDING FOR LAGUNA STATE UNIVERSITY ROOF REPAIR IN 2026 BUDGET

/ 16 November 2025

SENATE President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Saturday said he will propose a P6-million allocation for the construction of a new roof at Laguna State University (LSU) as part of his amendments to the 2026 national budget.
Sotto confirmed the planned amendment, saying the university had requested funding for the much-needed infrastructure improvement.
“I will submit it during the period of amendments — the roof construction for Laguna State University. They need about six million pesos,” he said.
The proposal may be coursed either through the Department of Public Works and Highways or the Commission on Higher Education, depending on which agency will implement the project.
He emphasized that the funding will require a complete program of work and an accompanying resolution before it can be approved.
The Senate President also assured that budget deliberations will be completed on time.
“Starting next week, we will conduct sessions both in the morning and afternoon. We will finish this, and it will be clean. Clean — not just finished for the sake of finishing,” he added.
Sotto reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the 2026 budget will be free from irregularities, warning that any attempt to insert questionable provisions will be strongly opposed.
“This budget will be clean. We will fight anyone who tries to insert anything,” he said.
He added that transparency measures, including the agreed-upon live streaming of deliberations with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., will allow the public to hear every amendment and identify who proposes specific changes.
“The public will hear everything — the deliberation, the amendments, who inserts what,” Sotto stressed. “And there will be no insertions during the bicam. I will not allow it.”
