SENATOR STRESSES NEED TO ENSURE BETTER PAY FOR TEACHERS ABROAD
SENATOR Cynthia Villar appealed to the Department of Migrant Workers to look into the situation of Filipino teachers who choose to work as babysitters abroad, particularly in Hong Kong.
Villar called on DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac to find a way to adjust the salaries of what she called nanny-teachers abroad.
According to Villar, employers prefer hiring Filipino nannies who have teaching backgrounds because they can also teach their children while taking care of them.
“I hope that will be considered when determining the salary grade they will have,” Villar said.
Villar earlier expressed her support for the nomination of Cacdac as Secretary of the DMW.
However, the Commission on Appointment panel decided to suspend the deliberations on nominations due to lack of material time.
Cacdac’s nomination is expected to be tackled on the resumption of the session of Congress on July.
