SENATOR STRESSES NEED TO COMBAT MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian urged authorities to expedite the investigation of the death of two students in Taguig City.
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian urged authorities to expedite the investigation of the death of two students in Taguig City.
He said that because of the incident, there should be a great sense of urgency in combating the mental health crisis engulfing schools.
“With a heavy heart, I join in the mourning of classmates, teachers, and loved ones of the two female students whose lifeless bodies were discovered in a room inside the premises of Signal Village National High School, Taguig City on Friday night,” the chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic Education said.
Gatchalian called on the Department of Education, the Philippine National Police, and the Scene of the Crime Operatives to expedite the investigation and to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The senator pleaded to the public to avoid sharing unverified information as these information may lead to more confusion.
“Let us respect and allow the loved ones of the departed to grieve without our unsolicited intrusion, but let us also reflect on how we can all help in building kinder and loving communities,” he added.
The Senate approved the Basic Education Mental Health and Well-Being Promotion Act on third and final reading last September.
