SENATOR: SOCIAL MEDIA MISINFORMATION THREATENS FIGHT VS TEENAGE PREGNANCIES
SENATOR Robinhood Padilla called on authorities to address the misleading information about sex found in social media platforms to bring down teenage pregnancies.
The senator warned that misleading information could derail the programs of government to fight teenage pregnancy.
Padilla said the youth spend as much as six hours a day on social media, longer than the time they spend in school.
He added 78 percent of young Filipinos have a mobile phone, and 59 percent have internet access while 53 percent have social networking accounts.
He called for a limit to social media access to prevent the youth from being misinformed and misled.
“Wala po tayong sapat na kapangyarihan para labanan ang mga impormasyon na lumalabas sa social media,” he said.
