SENATOR SLAMS REPORTED HAZING INCIDENT AT PNPA
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday strongly condemned a reported hazing incident at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), describing it as “deeply alarming and unacceptable” for an institution tasked with training future law enforcers.
Gatchalian raised concerns over the academy’s integrity, questioning how it can uphold its mandate if violations of the law occur within its own ranks.
“If those who are supposed to uphold the law are the ones breaking it, how can we entrust them with public safety and order?” he said.
The senator stressed that those involved must be held accountable under the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018, which penalizes hazing and other forms of initiation rites that result in harm or abuse.
Authorities have confirmed that three suspects linked to the incident are already in custody, while investigations remain ongoing.
Gatchalian also urged PNPA leadership to take decisive action—not only to deliver justice for the victims but to eliminate what he described as a culture of violence within the academy.
He emphasized the need for reforms and stricter enforcement of anti-hazing policies to restore public trust in the institution and prevent similar incidents in the future.
