SENATOR Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. has filed a measure that seeks to establish the National Defense University of the Philippines.

Senate Bill 1211 aims to strengthen the National Defense College’s mandate and mission by transforming it to university status.

“The National Defense College of the Philipppines has been providing intensive studies relative to national defense and security to qualified civilian executives and military leaders for 20 years,” Revilla said in his explanatory note.

The senator said the NDUP shall be under the general supervision of the Secretary of National Defense who shall be responsible for the organization of the University and appointment of heads of units and other officials.

An organizational set-up with the corresponding personnel, qualifications and remuneration shall likewise be established in support of the new mandate.

Senator Loren Legarda has also filed a bill that aims to put up the Philippine Defense University.
