SENATOR SEEKS REALIGNMENT OF BASIC AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian filed a measure that will ensure the alignment of basic and early childhood education.
Senate Bill 2029 or the proposed Basic Education and Early Childhood Education Alignment Act mandates greater responsibilities on Local Government Units on the implementation of early education programs.
Gatchalian stressed that young children aged 0-4 years old are among the most vulnerable.
He added that early childhood education is extremely crucial in the development of young children.
“Quality Early Childhood Education sets a strong foundation for learning,” Gatchalian said.
The senator explained that the gains under the Early Childhood Education will be wasted if it is not aligned with the K to 12 curriculum.
“The K to 12 basic education system will suffer if children who enter Kindergarten have not been properly equipped with the necessary skills or taught the essential learning competencies,” Gatchalian explained.
