SENATOR SEEKS INQUIRY ON HFMD TRANSMISSION AMONG KIDS

/ 20 February 2023

SENATOR Nancy Binay wants the Senate to conduct an inquiry, in aid of legislation, to address the fast transmission of hand, foot and mouth disease among Filipino children.

In filing Senate Resolution 478, Binay said that steps must be taken to curb the fast transmission of the disease.

“There is a pressing need to act immediately and avert the spread of the disease in the country,” she said.

The senator pointed out that it is the government’s duty to ensure that Congress formulates appropriate and reactive policies to address health issues brought by HFMD.

According to the World Health Organization, HMFD is a common infectious disease that occurs most often in children.

It is highly contagious with an incubation period of two to 14 days. The symptoms are fever, painful sores in the mouth, and rashes with blisters on hands, feet and buttocks.
