SENATOR SEEKS IMMEDIATE ACTION ON EDU.PH DOMAIN DISRUPTION
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian called on the Philippine Network Foundation, Inc. (PHNet) to promptly restore online services affected by a DDoS attack on the edu.ph domain.
“This disruption impacts students, educators, and stakeholders who rely on these platforms for learning and daily activities,” Gatchalian said, emphasizing the urgency of the issue.
He also urged the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC) to investigate the incident. “It’s essential to inform the public about the true nature of the disruption, especially if it poses cybersecurity threats to educational institutions,” he added.
The senator further emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders managing the edu.ph domain. “Collaboration is key to preventing and mitigating future incidents,” he said.
In light of the attack, Gatchalian renewed his call for the passage of the Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Act. “This legislation will establish minimum information security standards and a national computer emergency response mechanism to strengthen our cybersecurity infrastructure,” he noted.
Gatchalian highlighted that with the rise of online learning, secure access to educational websites is no longer a luxury but a necessity. “This is not just about convenience but about ensuring that students and educators can access the tools and resources they need without disruption,” he said.
