SENATOR PUSHES PROTECTION OF STREET CHILDREN
SENATOR Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr. stressed the need to strengthen the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children or the BCPC and establish an incentives system for the private sector engaged in the promotion of the welfare of street children.
He filed Senate Bill 698 or the proposed Street Children Welfare Act that seeks to ensure that street children are provided with adequate nutrition, clothing and shelter as well as health services and educational opportunities.
“The concern about the proliferation of street children in the country has been a subject of various studies and policy proposals,” Revilla said in his explanatory note.
Under the bill, BCPC will coordinate with the Council for the Welfare of Children and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in drawing and implementing plans for the promotion of child and youth welfare, particularly on issues concerning street children.
It will also monitor children on the streets in their respective communities.
