SENATOR PUSHES FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF PARENT LEADERS’ ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM
SENATOR Risa Hontiveros has filed a measure to strengthen the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) through the Parent Leaders’ Adult Education Program.
In her Senate Bill 2843, or the proposed 4Ps Parent Leaders’ Adult Education Program, Hontiveros explained that aside from conditional cash transfers for health, nutrition, and education, the 4Ps program also integrates family development sessions as a capacity-building intervention to enhance parenting capabilities.
The measure aims to encourage parent-leaders and responsible adults in households to become more active citizens.
The bill mandates education and manpower agencies such as the Department of Education, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the Commission on Higher Education, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the Department of Trade and Industry, among others, to develop and establish an adult education program for 4Ps parent leaders and adult household beneficiaries.
The bill aligns with constitutional guarantees of promoting the right of all citizens to quality education at all levels.
It also provides transportation and meal allowances for 4Ps parent leaders, including adult household beneficiaries, in the adult education program, along with priority for government assistance and interventions upon completion of the program.
