SENATOR PUSHES FOR 20% LOAD DISCOUNT FOR STUDENTS

/ 6 July 2025

SENATOR Bam Aquino is advocating for the passage of a measure mandating a 20% discount on mobile load and internet services for all students, recognizing the critical role of connectivity in education.

Under the proposed Student Discount Para sa Load Act, Aquino aims to institutionalize a system granting discounted rates for mobile and internet use—including calls, text messaging, prepaid and postpaid load, broadband, and other internet services.

Aquino stressed that access to communication and internet services can no longer be seen as a luxury, especially for young learners.

“Access to communication and the internet has become an essential part of students’ learning, especially in today’s digital age,” Aquino said. “We need to ensure they are not burdened by the high cost of connectivity.”

The proposal provides for a 20% discount on telecommunications services year-round, including weekends and holidays.

Students may avail themselves of the discount by presenting a valid school ID or proof of enrollment. It will apply to all forms of telecommunications services, covering both prepaid and postpaid mobile plans, as well as broadband and internet subscriptions.

Aquino’s measure seeks to ease the financial strain on students and their families, particularly amid rising costs and the growing integration of digital learning tools in classrooms and homes.
