SENATOR PUSHES BUDGET HIKE FOR NATIONAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

/ 23 November 2022

SENATOR Raffy Tulfo wants the National Children’s Hospital given a bigger budget to enhance the delivery of its services.

Tulfo said that the situation in the hospital, which caters to children from the poorest families and serious pediatric cases, is appalling and heartbreaking. He explained that the hospital lacks manpower, its facilities are below industry standards and its equipment are either outdated or lacking.

The senator also urged the Department of Health, Department of Budget and Management and his fellow senators to personally visit the hospital to see the state of the hospital firsthand.

To remedy the dire situation, Tulfo moved to augment the NCH budget by getting funds from underperforming government agencies.

Tulfo said that the situation in NCH has gotten worse.

In his recent visit to said hospital, Tulfo shared that the suffering of children and their parents were apparent on their faces as they lined up in the hospital’s cramped and hot hallway.

The senator also noted that the hospital’s building is dilapidated.

“May basag na bintana at plywood ang ipinantatakip dito. There are not enough electric fans and no proper ventilation and the windows have to be opened for fresh air. Sinabitan ng manipis na kurtina ang bintana marahil upang ‘di makapasok ang mga lamok at alikabok,” Tulfo said.
