SENATOR PRODS DEPED AND CHED TO RESOLVE LET ISSUES
SEN. Joel Villanueva on Thursday asked the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education to coordinate in addressing issues surrounding the Licensure Examination of Teachers.
“If we are able to clear the issues surrounding LET which is the major assessment tool for our teacher graduates, we will be able to define the process of collaboration and coordination that we want for the teacher education council,” Villanueva said during the hearing of the Senate Basic Committee on Education on the Senate Bill 1887.
The bill seeks to strengthen the Teachers Education Council created in 1994 to facilitate the collaboration with education agencies.
Neither CHED nor the PRC is involved in the development of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers which was designed by the Teachers Education Council, DepEd, and Philippine Normal University.
The PRC does not release LET questions, hindering experts and teacher education institutions from assessing whether the examination is aligned with the PPST.
Meanwhile, Sen. Imee Marcos recommended the setting up of an independent evaluation unit to enhance TEC efforts in implementing reforms to improve the quality of teachers.
