SENATOR PRODS CHED: ACT ON CASE OF UNIVERSITY OF MANILA STUDENTS
SENATOR Raffy Tulfo asked the Commission on Higher Education to immediately act on the cases of Civil Engineering students from the University of Manila who were not able to graduate on time.
SENATOR Raffy Tulfo asked the Commission on Higher Education to immediately act on the cases of Civil Engineering students from the University of Manila who were not able to graduate on time.
The students had complained about the university’s alleged unfair, non-transparent, and abusive grading practices.
“You have this case for more than a month and in those more than 30 days, I am sure you had the opportunity and the time to review the pieces of evidence presented to you. The students and parents have suffered enough,” Tulfo said.
The senator filed proposed Senate Resolution No. 700 directing the concerned Senate committee to conduct an inquiry on the issue.
Sen. Francis Escudero, chairman of the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education, asked CHED whether it was conducting an investigation or merely doing a mediation between the concerned students and the UM.
“What’s the objective of the mediation if you are investigating the possible violations committed by UM?” he asked.
Escudero directed the UM officials to explain why they should not be cited in contempt for not attending the Senate hearing.
Frederick Farolan, Director IV of CHED’s Legal Legislative Service, said the agency already served a show cause order to UM.
