SENATOR HOPES TO PASS MANDATORY ROTC BILL AFTER HOLY WEEK BREAK

/ 25 March 2024

SENATOR Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa is still hopeful that the Senate will pass the measure reviving Mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps or ROTC for the tertiary level.

“Well, I’m the chairman and the sponsor of that particular bill ay hindi ako mawawalan ng pagasa, fight pa rin tayo. Baka pagbalik pa rin, tatatakayin na namin sa plenaryo sa period of interpellation na kami,” dela Rosa said in an interview over DWIZ.

“Kung hahantong tayo sa botohan, eh dapat botohan na yan para kasi magandang panukalang batas yan. Para magkaalaman kung sinong ayaw, sinong gusto,” he added.

Dela Rosa, however, admitted that there is a very slim margin between the senators who are in favor and those who are opposing the bill.

“Hindi ko pa masabi exactly kung ilan, basta by slim chance yan. very slim ang margin. Kung manalo, very slim. Kung matalo, very slim din. Ganun yan. Ganun ang takbo diyan,” the senator explained.

The lawmaker is hoping that during the interpellation, more senators will support the measure.

“I’m not sure. I’m not sure. Pero yun nga, very, very, very fluid yung pag-iisip ng ating mga senador sa deliberasyon doon sa plenaryo. Kung makumbinsi natin sila, baka magbago yung isip nila,” he stressed.
