SENATOR HOPES PBBM WILL ADDRESS SHS PROBLEM, OTHER ITEMS IN SONA 2025
SENATOR Jinggoy Estrada shared his expectations for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address expressing hope that the President would tackle issues close to his legislative priorities.
Estrada said he is particularly interested in hearing the President’s position on scrapping the senior high school program, which he considers one of his pet bills.
“First of all, senior high school — if he really wants to remove it — because that is one of my pet bills,” Estrada said.
The senator has previously raised concerns over the added burden of two more years in the K to 12 education system, especially on financially struggling families.
The lawmaker has filed measure abolishing the program.
Estrada also hopes the President will push for stronger measures against online gambling, either through a ban or stricter regulation of the industry.
He added that the issue of raising the minimum wage should be front and center in Marcos’ address, given the growing clamor for wage increases amid rising living costs.
“Minimum wage for our minimum wage earners,” Estrada emphasized.
President Marcos is scheduled to deliver his fourth SONA on July 28, 2025.
