SENATOR CONDEMNS P500-M INVESTMENT SCAM VICTIMIZING TEACHERS
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian has strongly condemned the cosmetics and skincare investment scam that defrauded hundreds of Filipinos, including teachers from Biñan, Laguna, of ₱500 million.
Expressing outrage over the scheme, Gatchalian reaffirmed his commitment to seeking justice for the victims and holding those responsible accountable.
“Nakakalungkot at nakakagalit na may mga masasamang loob na patuloy na nanlilinlang at nagnanakaw mula sa ating mga kababayang tapat na naghahanapbuhay,” he said.
The senator emphasized the need for immediate action, noting that while charges of estafa have already been filed, more needs to be done to support the victims. He called on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to take a proactive role in assisting those affected and pursuing legal action against the fraudulent firm.
He also urged law enforcement agencies to track down the company’s CEO, who remains unreachable following the firm’s abrupt closure.
Gatchalian stressed that investment scams have become a growing concern in the country, particularly targeting individuals who are seeking financial stability. He warned the public to be vigilant and to verify investment opportunities before committing their hard-earned money.
The senator added that authorities must intensify their crackdown on fraudulent schemes and ensure stricter regulations to prevent similar incidents.
Beyond seeking justice for the victims, Gatchalian emphasized the importance of equipping Filipinos with financial literacy to help them recognize and avoid scams. He stated that he would work closely with relevant government agencies, including the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and educational institutions, to strengthen financial education programs.
Victims of the scam have called for immediate government intervention, hoping to recover their investments and hold those responsible accountable. Many teachers, who had invested their savings in the scheme, expressed frustration and distress over their financial losses.
As investigations continue, Gatchalian reassured the victims that he would push for stronger protections against fraudulent investment schemes. He reiterated his commitment to championing policies that safeguard teachers and other hardworking Filipinos from falling prey to such deceptive practices.
